Plenty of scope for tourism jobs in Ireland

If you’re looking for a future-proof career in Ireland, the tourism industry is one sector which is high on the agenda for development and growth.

With its rolling green hills, commanding mountains and warm hospitality, the Emerald Isle has long been a popular holiday destination, attracting millions each year from across the globe.

Country and city breaks are both on trend. Visitors love the charm and leisurely pace of the country’s unspoilt villages and Ireland’s natural features lend themselves perfectly to sporting pastimes such as golf, fishing, horse riding, cycling and walking. Meanwhile, the vibrant capital city of Dublin is a shopping and live music mecca.

Recent moves to abolish the travel tax on airline passengers look set to boost tourism even further, with the potential to attract additional visitors.

This all adds up to a promising outlook for the tourism, and for jobs in the sector. Typical roles include hotel management, reception, concierge, bar tenders, chefs, cleaners, waiting on staff, tour guides, entertainers, coach drivers, and restaurant and café workers to name but a few.

On the Jobs.ie website alone, there are numerous travel and tourism related positions currently being advertised, including vacancies for driver-guides, hotel reception staff, and holiday sales consultants.

Being able to speak more than one language is always a bonus if you want a career in tourism. Marriott International is recruiting nine reservation sales agents at its Co. Cork centre and they are specifically looking for multilingual professionals, one each fluent in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, German, Italian, Dutch, French, Spanish and Turkish.
