Home to half a million people, the city is nicknamed Hollywood North because of its popularity as a hub for movie and TV productions. A great many American films and TV shows are, in fact, filmed in Vancouver – take a look at the credits next time you are viewing!

It is reputed to be the third biggest movie centre in the North America continent, just behind Los Angeles and New York City, and second only to LA in terms of TV production. Recent productions include X-Men: The Last Stand, Juno, Agent Cody Banks, and Andromeda to name but a few!

Vancouver also prides itself in being a global presence in the technology sector. Its software and game companies include Maximizer and Electronic Arts, while international names with an operational base in the city include IBM, Microsoft, Nokia and Intel.

Because it is such a beautiful city – why else would everyone want to film here! – Vancouver understandably attracts millions of visitors each year. Not only is the coastal city itself a good prospect for tourism and hospitality jobs, but there are forests and parks which employ a range of people, too. If you fancy working in a ski resort, for example, Whistler-Blackcomb is just north of the metropolis, while Grouse Mountain and Cypress Mountain are close by and are well-supported destinations for sporting and leisure events.
